How to organize a garage sale before the move
Moving means that you have to pack up all your belongings. It is just when you start to pack do people realize that they have lots of things. Most of which are useless. We tend to hold onto things that we don’t need and don’t ever use. Sometimes we keep them because they have sentimental value. Some people keep valuable things such as paintings, sculptures, etc. And there are plenty of people who just have a bunch of things that have no meaning to them whatsoever yet they do have a problem of getting rid of them. Well, no matter what your situation is, as you are soon moving into a new home, now is the perfect time to declutter and organize a garage sale before the move. There are plenty of perks of organizing a yard sale. You will get rid of the things that you don’t need, sell someone something they want, and you’ll make more free space in your new home by not moving these things.
Start decluttering on time
Decluttering takes a lot of time. Especially if you live in a house with a couple of people. This is why you need to give yourself enough time to finish decluttering and packing a few days before you move. You don’t want to have to do anything in a hurry. Especially because organizing a garage sale is not something you can do in just a day. So, as soon as you know you will be moving to another home, start putting aside the things that you want to sell. Even things that you cannot sell for more than a dollar are welcome here. Try to put aside as many useless things as you can.
This will both gain you and save you a lot of money. How come? Well, you will not have to move these things which means needed fewer packing supplies which also means your packing process will last much shorter. And you will earn money by selling these things. You will also have a lot more storage space at home. This way your new place will feel like home. A nicer one.
Spread the word
Your next step is to spread the word in your town or neighborhood that you will be having a garage sale soon. This way you will ensure more people visit your sale which certainly means selling more things and earning more money. When you have a certain date for the garage sale in mind, you should put up posters around the neighborhood. It isn’t a bad idea to create an online event that people can see as well. This is a much faster way to spread the word.
Be realistic with pricing
If you put the prices up to high, you will have a hard time selling anything. This is why you need to be realistic when you are pricing the thing that you are selling. Don’t sell everything in bundles. Sell books and toys in bundles. You could do the same for the clothing of the same size if you will be selling any clothing. And remember that anything that you don’t end up selling, you don’t have to completely throw away. You can put everything in a unit and keep it safe there until you are ready to let go of these things.
Make everything easily visible
Don’t just throw everything together. You need to organize a garage sale that is going to set you free of certain items and gain you money. Put some thought into the whole thing. Make a plan of where what will be placed. Put all books together, all clothes together, all toys together. Divide your belongings.
